Christmas Raffle & BlueBall Fundraiser

4 Dec 2009

Klair Bayley and friends recently held a successful school event and she shares her story with us...

My name is Klair Bayley.  Mother of 3 children Olivia 11, Logan 8 and Flynn 2.  I am married to Justin and we all live in Perth Western Australia. I am a hospital clinical manager in Perth and work 2 nights a week.

Our middle child Logan was diagnosed just before he turned 6 with DMD.We have no family history of the condition. Since his diagnosis, Logan has continued to progress well making things even more surreal - the inevitable mourning for something you have not lost.  He is currently in year 2 at primary school and is doing well.

We became aware of the foundation after my numerous hours on line looking for any new glimmers of hope! Up until August this year we have not engaged any services other than Rocky bay and have minimal support networks other than our friends who are amazing!  But have now made some great contacts at the foundation with Deb Robins and with the Muscular Dystrophy Association of WA.

I decided at short notice to have a fund raiser as I loved the blue ball theme and the idea that there is an emphasis on the boys when they are young and so engaging and educating the school community. With support from friends and the school, we held the fundraising blue themed day on November 27 at Orana Catholic Primary School, Willetton in Perth.

We had : a free dress day with the blue theme, a guess how many jelly bean competition, raffle and morning tea as well as the sale of the bands and the balls, which the children loved. The day was a huge success and we ended up with 27 raffle prizes with generous donations.

As a result we raised $1860 !  Which for a small school was an amazing effort.

I hope to have an even better event next year and plan to continue my relationship with the foundation continue to raise awareness in the community and make a difference!

Where there is love there is hope!
